Exhibition. Baltic Home 2. Local dialogue.

2022-02-11

Welcome aboard the second edition of Baltic Home, where the projects of contemporary artists will be juxtaposed with classics of seaside design. Will there be a common, local dialogue between them? What do the furniture and objects say about themselves?

The utility items and furniture presented at the exhibition will speak out. Each of them designed according to a concept, entrusted from the caring hands of artists-enthusiasts of what is modern, but also with a touch of creating a better and more comfortable everyday life.

These are not furniture and objects for everyone. These are furniture and objects for all those who, while living globally, can appreciate local values. Local – because the uniqueness of these items is shaped far from large factories and the view of production lines, from the moment the concept of them appears in the mind of a local artist. This creates an image not only of immense authenticity but above all of love for what is ours and local!

Let’s check out what the objects have to say to us. Was the process of their creation delicate? What path did they take to be featured in the exhibition? What motivates their creators to seek new forms?

Among the exhibition, we will find utility items and furniture, including:

– Chippensteel chair by Oskar Zięta,

– KIZU lamp by Norwegian Lars Tornøe,

– Kilim titled “Small Chaos” by Edgar Bąk, handwoven in Bobowa (SPLOT Studio),

– Supersonic scooter by Mateusz Sipiory,

– Swedish rug Pappelina produced from PET bottles,

Recording beyond recording – seeds as memory carriers – participatory project

Author: Renata Ramola Piórkowska

Renata Ramola’s diploma project addresses issues such as cooperation, respect, memory, responsibility, and ecology. The project aimed to engage the creative process of an alienated senior community. Workshops dedicated to seniors were primarily based on participatory design. They aimed to familiarize participants with topics related to ecology, art, craftsmanship, and design. During the workshops, participants, together with Renata Ramola, created threads from seeds, sharing various life stories, which were meticulously recorded on video. Over time, it turned out that spinning yarn and then making an object took a back seat. Honest conversation, attention, and listening

became much more important, both for seniors and for the artist herself. Striving to achieve the planned goal, one cannot forget about the human being and interpersonal relationships. The meetings provided seniors with the opportunity to experience previously unknown skills, and as a result, they were inspired to undertake further creative activities in the future, stimulating their imagination and developing manual skills. The conclusion they reached together during the classes was that memories of people and their stories would be transferred in these seeds, through the life cycles they go through.

New Bauhaus Workshop

Facilitators: Monika Klein and Hanna Wysocka

The quote “The whole world is Bauhaus” comes from Bauhaus lecturer Fritz Kuhr (1928). It means that the idea of “designing” connections between art, craft, and technology applies to any sphere of life. The quoted title, accompanied by a question mark, encourages asking important questions. What else can Bauhaus teach us? Or perhaps Bauhaus is simply a relic now? Where to seek Bauhaus and how to create in its spirit. The workshop will address topics related to the New European Bauhaus and the New Deal initiative. It will help recognize transboundary needs for sustainable development. The workshop will result in a report on transboundary needs.
